About DAC

Dufferin Arts Council respectfully acknowledges that we live
and create art in Dufferin County, which resides within
the traditional territory and ancestral lands of the
Tionontati (Petun), Attawandaron (Neutral), Haudenosaunee
(Six Nations), and Anishinaabe peoples.

These traditional territories are steeped in rich
Indigenous history and traditions.
It is with this statement that we declare
to honour and respect the past, present and future
connection of Indigenous peoples with this land,
its waterways and resources.

The Dufferin Arts Council is a group of people who have come together to support artists and the arts in Dufferin. In 2017 we celebrated 25 years of the arts in Dufferin we are proud of the inspiration, encouragement and support we have given to, and had from, the many talented artists who flourish right here in Dufferin County.

The members of DAC are many different people—young artists starting out, established artists, artists who share their talents with local schools, educators, business owners, theatre goers, storytellers, writers and musicians, gardeners, people who belong to book clubs and music associations, and people with a wide range of professional skills that serve the council year after year.

We work hard to support both the interests of our members and the skills of our local artists. For our members there are monthly luncheons with speakers who cover a broad range of topics, outings to art galleries, museums and theatres, and workshops to encourage us to explore our inner artist. We have gone hiking in Killarney Provincial Park, listened to Ian Scott discuss up-coming seasons at the Metropolitan Opera and visited the Aga Kahn Museum in Toronto—just to give you some idea.

For many of us though, it is the contributions we can make to the development of the arts within our community that keep us active in DAC. Each year we raise money to fund projects that promote the development of artists and the arts throughout Dufferin County.

To sustain the level of funding our programs require and be able to explore new opportunities as they arise, we rely on the generosity of members and friends as well as the dedication of our volunteers and community supporters. Our members are very generous and our volunteers work hard to ensure the success of each and every event. This does not mean, however, that these programs all have

secure futures.

Our goal is to continue to be a leader in the flourishing arts community of Dufferin County and the Headwaters region.
